John was very proud of his Scottish ancestry even though he lived in Ross from the age of 5. His Nationl Service was spent as a Bevin Boy in the Forest of Dean. He had a stationery business and a successful printing business in Tewkesbury. He was secretary of the Chamber of Commerce for many years and treasurer of the League of Friends of Ross Community Hospital.
John was very fond of this Celtic Blessing:
May the road rise up to meet you,
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face;
the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again,
may God hold you in the palm of His hand.
Donations in memory of John can be given to Ross Hospital. (Account number 04706358, Sort code 54-3-51)
John is remembered by his widow, Sylvia.
